Object: poetic works written by S. Baudelaire, P. Verlaine, A. Rimbaud, F. Sologub, I. Annensky and V. Bryusov. Results, novelty: the structure and semantics of the motive complex "l'ennui de vivre", its invariant and variable components have been determined for the first time; a comparative analysis of this motive was made on the material of French and Russian poetry of symbolism; typological coincidences and differences in the works of S. Baudelaire, P. Verlaine, A. Rimbaud, I. Annensky, V. Bryusov and F. Sologub have been discovered; the ways of comparative-typological analysis of the motive complex have been improved by distinguishing invariant motives characteristic of French and Russian poetry of symbolism, and their comparative study on the basis of specific texts; the role of translation in the contact-genetic relationships of French and Russian symbolism and decadence; the mechanisms for the reception and transformation of the “l'ennui de vivre” motive in the process of translation interpretation have been clarified. Field of Use: The results of the study can be used to further develop of the problems of poetry of symbolism and decadence, as well as in the teaching of a course in the history of world literature, special courses and seminars on the work of poets-symbolists.
