Essay

“Kyiv-Pechersk Paterik” is a monument of the Ukrainian medieval, not only literary, but also cultural, artistic, and spiritual. As a monastic memorial, “Paterikon” works closely with the Bible: patrician characters often emulate the Biblical, the authors of “Paterikon” “borrow” and actualize the themes and ideas of the Scriptures, which become the semantic centers of the Paterik’s “Words”. Such content interraction, on the one hand, is accompanied by frequent citation of the Book of Books, references to biblical episodes, and on the other hand, because of the presence of fragments of the Holy Scripture in the “Paterik”. Due to the multifaceted interraction between the Bible and the “Kyiv-Pechersk Paterik” there is a special content text - intertext. А large number of fragments from various books of the Holy Scripture in the “Paterikon” testifies to the multilevel interaction of the two texts, and thus to the multiplicity of the most ancient Ukrainian work. Biblical imprints are thoroughly embedded in the text fabric of the “Words”, where these inclusions are literary models, philosophical, moral and ethical foundations.
