Didenko K. Social housing programs in the architecture of metropolian Kharkiv (1917-1934)

Object: complexes and objects of social housing infrastructure created in the capital of Ukraine in the 1st third of the 1920s - aug. 1930s; purpose: to identify the principles and architectural and urban planning results of the implementation of social housing programs in Kharkov of the capital period (1917-1934), as well as to determine the stages and organizational conditions for their implementation; methods: the research methodology is based on the principles of a systematic approach in architecture, which helps integrate some aspects of sociology and historiography into the historical and theoretical study of architecture and urban planning, and allows to identify the influence of the architectural environment on human consciousness. The social aspect of the research is covered through the use of the social design theory that underlies it and helps identify the context of the formation of project activity as a powerful tool of social transformative action; novelty: the work first uncovered the leading role and interconnection of the two largest programs for the development and creation of the capital's administrative and government center and the largest industrial complex; identified the socio-programmatic content in the housing construction of the metropolitan Kharkiv and indicated the change in conceptual approaches while the implementation of this construction; traced the influence of the concepts and practical experiments of the Soviet and European architectural and urban planning avant-garde on the execution of social housing programs in the metropolitan Kharkov; the research methodology, based on a systematic approach to studying the architectural and urban development of metropolitan Kharkov and accounting the social aspect of architectural objects of those years received further development; the integration of architecture and urban planning of metropolitan Kharkiv in the context of the social design theory; the content of the following concepts has been improved: social housing program, social housing infrastructure, development program, creation program; the content of typological concepts / models which were put into practice in the architectural and urban complexes of the metropolitan Kharkov; results: the architectural and urban development results of the implementation of social and housing programs in Kharkiv in the period 1917-1934 were revealed and the evolution of conceptual approaches to the creation of residential complexes was revealed, the social factors of the development of the typology of housing and placement of residential complexes in connection with the tasks of Kharkov restructuring were investigated performance of capital functions; degree of implementation: architectural design, educational process; field: architecture.
