Essay

Object: valuable historic buildings; goal: to form a comprehensive methodology for determining the adaptation potential of significant historical buildings, relevant to the Ukraine; methods: general scientific (systematization, comparative analysis, generalization of previous results) and special research methods (graph-analytical method, general statistical methods, factor analysis elements and sociological survey methods) were used novelty: for the first time, the historical development of approaches to the adaptation and rehabilitation of historical buildings is analyzed and periodized; for the first time, European experience and methodologies for measuring the resource potential of adaptation of historical buildings are systematized; for the first time, a comprehensive methodology has been proposed for determining the adaptation potential of historical buildings, which is relevant for the Ukraine; the theoretical foundations of the modern concept of preserving the architectural heritage within the mechanisms of a market economy were further developed; results: the method of adaptation of significant historic buildings can be applied to optimize the results of previous studies of historic buildings and to increase the economic efficiency of project works in today's market conditions; implementation main principles of the study in the educational process; degree of implementation: architectural design and restoration; branch: architecture.
