Shykunov O. Improvement of the strength characteristics of the side frame of the freight wagon bogie through amelioration of its design

The dissertation is devoted to the solution of the actual scientific task of improving the strength characteristics of the side frame of a bogie of a freight wagon by improving its design and methods of strength testing. Theoretical and experimental researches of influence of a side frame design and spring suspension parameters on the stress state of the side frame of a freight wagon trolley were carried out. On the basis of the performed researches the actual scientific problem of improving the strength characteristics of the side frame of a bogie of a freight wagon is solved by optimization of its design by the criterion of durability on the basis of determining the combination of strengthening of individual zones of the structure with a limited increase of its mass. The method of estimation of side frame strength of freight wagon bogies based on the results of stationary strength tests due to the additional variant of loads and the estimation of stress distribution in the object based on the preliminary calculated strength assessment has been improved. The proposed design improvement and strength assessment solutions allow us to more accurately assess the lateral frame stress, reduce the stress in it (more than twice for some places) and increase the exploitation term of the side frame from 32 to 35 years. The economic effect of increasing the exploitation term of the reinforced structure is 2169 UAH per side frame. The results of the dissertation research were implemented in the PJSC "Kryukovsky Railway Car Building Works" and in the educational process of Dnipro National University of Railway Transport named after Academician V. Lazaryan.
