Melnyk T. Monetary regulation of the development of the Ukrainian banking system

Thesis for obtaining PhD in economics, specialty 08.00.08 – money, finance and credit. – SHEI «Banking University», Kyiv, 2019. The evolution of views on monetary regulation and the goals of monetary policy are explored in the dissertation. The definition of monetary regulation of the banking system development has been clarified. The impact of monetary regulation instruments on the development of the banking system is assessed by analyzing the dynamics of its key performance indicators. It has been determined that a change in the monetary policy stance has a strong influence on the choice of monetary regulation instruments. The impact of inflation and currency depreciation on the key performance indicators of the banking system has been estimated. The consequences of a massive winding-up of banks as a result the banking system clean-up have been investigated. The banking sector development index, which is used to assess the performance of the central bank as the monetary regulator and the banking system development, has been estimated. It has been established that lending to the real economy and the banking sector development index are closely interrelated. The development path of the banking system has been outlined, with efforts to stimulate lending to the economy playing a key role.
