Shevchenko V. State Language Institute in Ukraine: Historical and Legal Dimension.

The thesis is devoted to the research of the historical and legal foundations of the establishment and development of the state language institute in Ukraine. Today the linguistic situation in Ukraine remains complicated, characterized by a number of negative phenomena and trends and requires significant changes. This indicates that the new effective mechanisms of formation and implementation of state language policy and development of proper practice for the functioning of the state language, languages of national minorities and indigenous peoples are necessary. First of all, the task is to take a holistic approach to language problems solving, to determine the role of the Ukrainian language, which has the status of a state language. The European vector of Ukraine also means recognition of the European standards in the field of language policy. Developed European countries, first and foremost, seek to ensure the proper functioning of the state (official) language, guarantee the preservation, development and use of languages of national minorities and indigenous peoples.
