Kochkodan V. Press as a source of the study of the activity of women’s societies of Galicia (1884 – 1939)

A scientific work is based on periodicals, so it contains source-specific features. Due to the combined study of the press of the late 1920 – 1930 s, located in the libraries and archives of the cities of Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil Warsaw and Krakow, it was possible to analyze how the organization and public-cultural activity of the women’s associations of Galicia were reflected in the magazines. The author determined the degree of the scientific research of the subject by Soviet, Ukrainian diaspora, contemporary Ukrainian and foreign scholars. With the help of general scientific, historical, statistical and mathematical methods there were revealed the regularities in the coverage of the women’s movement of this period on the pages of the periodicals. New articles on this issue were included thanks to the source-studying heuristic and critique in the scientific circulation. It has been made a general description of the editions, their classification according to the chosen theme that was able to draw in the form of diagrams and tables. The used language and gender divisional approaches helped to compare Ukrainian / Polish and female / public-political publications, to identify similarities (issues of cultural, educational, economical or political activity), and differences (goals, an organizational structure, etc.) between them. The obtained data in the analysis of magazines managed to draw in the form of diagrams and tables.
