Essay

The dissertation introduces the epistemological reconstruction of James S. Coleman’s conception of micro-to-macro transitions. This reconstruction provides with particular attention to theoretical debates of the second half of XX century. The debates focused on such topics as action versus structure, interdisciplinary challenge, and rationality. James S. Coleman’s attempt to re-establish the connection between sociological and economic theory was questionable. “Economics imperialism” was identified as a context of micro-to-macro conceptualization. Economics imperialism is a theoretical situation when typical in economics cost-benefit explanation introduces in non-economic areas. That situation was at a historical peak when Chicago School of economics changed theoretical mainstream in economic science. Expansion of economics explanation in sociology provokes different reactions among sociologists.
