Essay

Thyroid gland pathology is the second most common disease of the adult population, next after cardiovascular disease. Thyroid nodules are the second most frequent abnormality after endemic goiter. The incidence of thyroid cancer in the world has increased twice within the last decade, which leads to an increased number of thyroidectomies. Cystic changes in thyroid nodules are present in 15-32% of cases. The presence of fluid inside the thyroid nodule reduces the diagnostic value of fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNA) but allows the use of mini-invasive treatments such as ethanol sclerotherapy. The purpose of the work was to improve the efficiency of cystic thyroid nodules management.
