scientific problem, which consists in the criminological knowledge of the State bureau of investigation as a subject of combating crime in Ukraine, the development of proposals and recommendations aimed at improving legislation and relevant law enforcement practice. It is proved that the criminological knowledge of the SBI as a subject of combating crime in Ukraine covers the following areas: conceptual definition of the SBI as a subject of crime prevention in Ukraine; legal basis for preventive activities of the SBI; implementation of the criminological policy of the state in the activities of the SBI; goals and objectives of preventive activities of the SBI; principles, functions and methods of preventive activities of the SBI; further implementation of international standards and proven European practices in the activities of the Bureau. It is substantiated that the mechanism of the SBI's work on combating crime has its own specific functional structure: first, a response to the crime takes place, and in the process of investigating the crime, new crimes are prevented.. The author has established the special powers of the SBI in the field of combating crime, distinguishing it from other state law enforcement agencies. Proposals have been developed to improve the legal support of the Bureau in the field of combating crime. Amendments to Art. 3 of the Law, supplementing them with such principles as: equality of all before the law; continuity; ensuring the unity of state policy in the field of combating crime; interaction with other state bodies, local governments, public associations. It is proved that the function of ensuring the continuity of generations and the training of personnel for the SBI needs to be implemented. The content of the methods used by the SBI in the field of combating crime with the appropriate division is defined as imperative (coercion) and dispositive (persuasion and encouragement). Particular attention is paid to the analysis and forecasting, planning and coordination of the counteracting effect on crime. The status of the SBI as a subject of the formation and implementation of the criminological policy of the state is analyzed, the guarantees of the stability of the criminological policy in the field of activity of the SBI are determined. It is substantiated that it is necessary to introduce criminologists in the Bureau, train personnel in the criminological area, and create a criminological center for the central office. The foreign experience of the functioning of specialized state bodies for combating crime is analyzed.
