The dissertation is the first comprehensive general-theoretical study of the influence of the Scandinavian factor upon the development of statehood of Kyivan Rus. The question was considered from the viewpoint and using a systemic approach to the study of state and legal reality in the territory of future Kyivan Rus. The dissertation has identified the nature and the ways Scandinavian and Slavic cultures communicated, as well as the mutual influence of legal cultures. The role of the Scandinavian factor in the process of development of statehood of Kyivan Rus has been highlighted. The cultural influence of the Scandinavians upon the Slavs and the role of its hierarchization have been analyzed
