Essay

The dissertation is a comprehensive study of the works of Les Gomin (Oleksandr Dmytrovych Korolevych) in the context of the Ukrainian literary process of the first half of the twentieth century, whose name has long been removed from readership and scientific field of view due to a number of political and ideological circumstances. Accordingly, historical-literary and post-colonial vectors of the reception of the prose of the writer are proposed. The work thoroughly examines the historiography of Les Gomin's life and career path, represented mainly by the works of Odesa and Cherkasy researchers, and systemizes receptive-critical concepts of his writings in Ukrainian literary studies. The detailed biography of Les Gomin with the involvement of archival sources, in particular, materials of the forensic investigation of the writer from the archive of the Security Service of Ukraine in Odesa region is presented. The connection of the works of the writer with socio-political and artistic processes of the first half of the twentieth century is determined. In accordance with socio-cultural, aesthetic and biographical factors, genre, stylistic and thematic innovations of creativity, a conditional periodization of Les Gomin's creative career is proposed. Ideological and artistic dimensions of Les Gomin's work confirm its important place in the literary process of the first half of the twentieth century. The prose of the writer reflects the key cultural-artistic and socio-ideological tendencies and artistic pursuits of the 1920s-1940s: from revolutionary romanticism and neo-realism to forced creative self-restraint and the attempt of artistic self-realization within the socialrealistic canon, in which his creative originality, not assimilated by formality to the end is still observed. The suggested dissertation research is an attempt to return to the history of literature and a comprehensive study of Les Gomin’s works in the context of Ukrainian literary process of the first half of the twentieth century. Further perspectives of the study are outlined in the comparative studios of the work of the writer within the colonial discourse of national literatures of the post-Soviet space and world literature of the twentieth century.
