Essay

The object of the research: the novel “Val’dshnepy”, the narratives “Sentymental’na Istoriya” and “Povist’ pro Sanatoriynu Zonu” by M. Khvylovy and their cinematic versions: “Val’dshnepy”, “Het’ Sorom!”, “Tanho Smerti”; literary interpretation of the novel “Val’dshnepy” by Artem Sokol in the novel “Aglaya”. Results, novelty: for the first time the problem of film interpretation of M. Khvylovy’s literary works is integrally investigated. Involvement of literary works by native and foreign researchers, works by M. Khvylovy and literary version by Artem Sokol, films of O. Muratov allowed to carry out the complex analysis of the screened trilogy on structural, genre-style, figurative, semiotic levels and to reveal the change of accents in the process of transfer literary reads on screen. Field of application: theoretical and factual material of this work can be used in teaching courses (“Comparative Literary Studies”, “The History of Ukrainian Literature of the twentieth century”) and special courses (“Adaptation for the screen of Ukrainian literary discourse”, “Film format of Ukrainian literature: interpretation of narrative literature by means of the cinema”). The materials of the dissertation can be used during the development of training courses in comparative study of literature and literary theory, for writing textbooks and manuals, preparation for term papers and master's research papers in a high school.
