In the thesis the theoretical and methodological foundations of the research of state environmental policy in sustainable development were revealed, which identifies the essence of ecology as a science that characterizes the Gnostic relationship and the relationship between man and nature, which expands the disciplinary space for its research and ensuring subject development; the environmental policy of the state was identified as a set of organizational and legal measures aimed at preserving (restoring) natural systems, their biological diversity, favorable state of the environment as a necessary condition for human life, their well-being). The concept of substantiation of ecological policy of the state was elaborated as a means of transition to ecologically sustainable development as an instrumental matrix which ensures progressive development of vital activity of a society which serves the solution of a wide complex of aggregate dominating problem; the Gnostic parameters of its effectiveness were presented: the degree of aggravation of ecological problems and the effectiveness of mechanisms for their solution. The content of the ecological function of the state was revealed as a tool for the management of rational natural resource use and regulation of the relationship between man and nature, which involves the introduction of appropriate activities of the state in the environmental sphere.
