Polonska O. Late Modern in Odessa architecture (1906-1914 yy.)

The thesis provides an analysis of stylistic, compositional, decorative and sculptural approaches to the residential and municipal buildings of late Modern period in Odessa. We analyzed the spatial arrangement of Odessa Modern architecture and defined the peculiarities of Modern on civil engineering, design and object levels. We brought out the composition devices, façade structural elements and architectural décor that were the designating signs of Modern. The work shows the compositional, decorative, spatial and stylistic peculiarities of late Odessa Modern contrasted with the previous styles of Historicism and early Modern. We evaluated the influence of late Modern architecture on 17 the following Constructivism and Socialist Realism periods in Odessa. We list recommendations on preservation and restoration of derelict elements of late Modern buildings in Odessa.
