Essay

The current research focuses on psychological characteristics of future nurses’ resilience in dealing with severe somatic patients. Domestic and foreign experience of interpretation of the concepts “resilience” and “development of future nurses’ resilience” is analyzed. The development of future nurses’ resilience dealing with severe somatic patients is defined as the individual ability to dynamically adapt and self-regulate in difficult life and professional situations, provided by the mechanism of managing personal resources: emotional, motivational, volitional, cognitive spheres in the context of social, cultural norms and environment conditions. The component-criterion model of development of future nurses’ resilience dealing with severe somatic patients is substantiated: (value-motivational, cognitive-reflexive, operational-activity, communicative-regulatory components), their criteria and indicators. The psychodiagnostic complex on studying of the components of development of future nurses’ resilience is defined. The levels and factors of development of nurse’ resilience in the process of their professional training are empirically investigated and their level differentiation is characterized. A high level was found only in one sixth of the respondents, and one tenth of them is characterized by a low level of resilience. The lower level of the communicative-regulatory and value-motivational component was stated in almost half and a third of the respondents, respectively; high - rarely. Better indicators were found for cognitive-reflexive and operational-activity components (low level was determined in one third and one sixth of respondents, respectively, high - only in one sixth). Peculiarities of the development of future nurses’ resilience and its components depending on age, year of study, type of educational institution are established. The limited psychological, pedagogical, organizational and methodological conditions for the development of resilience of medical professionals both during training and in the process of their professional practice. The psychological program for the development of resilience of future nurses dealing with severe somatic patients has been developed and tested. The program contains four modules and systematically develops the studied quality under the following conditions: ensuring the relevance of life experience and level of personal development; creating a safe space for personal change and for subject-subject interaction; maintaining an active, creative position to a new, developmental experience; organization of problem-semantic creative space; use of interactive teaching methods, stimulation of personal responsibility. Effectiveness of the program is confirmed. The resilience development training program can be used in the educational process aimed at training nurses, as well as at advanced training courses of nurses during their direct professional activities.
