Lishchuk N. Violence against women: causes and prevention

The thesis is devoted to the study of the issues associated with the acts of violence against women, primary reasons and conditions of committing such acts, analysis of their state, dynamics and victimologic peculiarities, as well as development of principal directions and ways to improve the activity directed at the prevention of wrongful acts in this area. As a result of the research performed, we have obtained certain scientific and theoretic findings, being of significance not only for science but also for the activity of law enforcement authorities. In the course of research, the definitions of the female victim of violence used in the scientific literature have been analyzed, and the author has suggested her own definition of the given notion, which is a person who suffered from physical, moral, property or psychological harm inflicted against her will as a result of a crime and being on the grounds of her special social and role status in the society. In case of reconviction of a person for crimes associated with domestic violence when conditional release is not possible, the necessity to order the liable person held without bail has been substantiated, because such behavior of the guilty person bears evidence of his or her unwillingness to change for the better. Besides, this will help to ensure proper further defense of the rights for the victim of violence.
