Essay

The thesis deals with the semantic and syntactic parameters of the sense verbs in modern Ukrainian. The ways of physical perception of the environment are differentiated and the means of their verbalization are systematized. The selection of the verbs of sensation into a separate semantic category of verbal vocabulary is grounded. It is proved that the verbs most accurately convey the specificity of the sensations, since, in contrast to other parts of the language, they have the greatest number of grammatical categories, syntactic activity and ability to function transposition. The verbs are capable of reflecting temporal and aspectual features of sensations: their origin, limited time, definite duration, amplification or attenuation, interruption, the extreme limit of expression, etc The structure of the lexical-semantic field of the verbs of sensation was modeled, its principal features were determined for the first time in the Ukrainian linguistics, namely: 1) the hierarchy that consists in dividing the field into a nucleus, center, and periphery; 2) the structure manifested in the selection of lexico-semantic groups of the verbs to denote different types of sensations; 3) systematicity caused by the presence of synonymy, antonymy, hyper-hyponymy relations between the components of lexico-semantic groups; 4) lack of clear boundaries between internal lexical semantic groups and subgroups, 5) functional intersection of the sense verbs with other lexical-semantic fields (specific physical action, movement, sound, etc.).
