Essay

This PhD thesis deals with the construction of a two-dimensional unsteady mathematical model of gas filtration in a porous medium under conditions of a pinhole emergency gas pipeline leak. It establishes the regularities of gas pipeline leaks under pressure made by the flow resistance coefficient of the porous medium. It conducts and provides with the research results on soil filtration properties and their dependency on external and internal factors. The independent factors affecting permeability of soils include internal soil pressure, its humidity, dry soil density and granule diameter. This PhD thesis determines by an experimental method the dependency of wet soil permeability with a definite internal pressure on the holding time at load. The relevant empirical dependences have been obtained. The survey findings have allowed establish general regularities for the formation of gas pollution area of the environment with emergency gas pipeline leaks pipeline leaks, underlying the principles for improving the assessment methods of gas loss due to emergency gas pipeline leaks.
