Essay

The urgent problem of architectural and space-planning design of hippotherapy rehabilitation centres is studied in the dissertation. The results of previous studies relevant to this study subject are summarized. The domestic and world experience in construction and design of institutions, using hippotherapy procedures was analysed, allowing to improve their typology, namely: a private centre with hippotherapy services provided; equestrian club/complex/school with inclusion of hippotherapy method; a children's camp with hippotherapy used as an additional service; a sanatorium with hippotherapy used as one of the types of treatment; a full-service rehabilitation centre with hippotherapy as as one of the types of treatment; a hippotherapy rehabilitation centre with hippotherapy as the main type of treatment. Positive and negative architectural and space-planning design aspects of these institutions are identified. Based on the analysis of the design and construction of institutions with hippotherapy services, their classification has been improved: by hippotherapy form; capacity; period of use; space design and type of activity. The following several groups of factors, affecting use of hippotherapy in different institutions, are determined: a sick child in the family, desire of helping people, increase in the number of services, high demand among the population (sick people), demand among ATO soldiers (post-war rehabilitation). A number of problems, regarding architectural and space-planning design of hippotherapy rehabilitation centres have been identified. As a result of the study of different institution types, rendering hippotherapy services, the author proposes the following typology of hippotherapy rehabilitation centres. General methods of the study was are determined, prerequisites of architectural and space-planning design of hippotherapy rehabilitation centres are identified. The functional and planning structure of equestrian complexes and rehabilitation centres, directly affecting the space-planning design of hippotherapy rehabilitation centres, is analysed. A logical and graphical model of the hippotherapy rehabilitation centre functional structure is proposed, a combination of functional components of rehabilitation and equestrian centres, used as a prototype, is proposed. The following architectural and space-planning design approaches of hippotherapy rehabilitation centres are determined: differentiation (individual planning of functional zones); compositional features; modularity; isolation; integration. Based on the scientific study results, the author made an attempt to derive the «hippotherapy rehabilitation centre» concept - as a separate type of rehabilitation centre with hippotherapy (treatment using a horse) as a priority treatment with a complete set of premises for year-round and temporary stay of visitors. The institution may provide medical, social, psychological, pedagogical and social rehabilitation, hippotherapy of all forms, or partially selected, there may be a scientific and educational centre, as well as various leisure and recreation services. As a result of conceptual design, studied experience of hippotherapy rehabilitation centre construction, sociological surveys and questionnaires, analysis of regulatory framework for design of health facilities and buildings for disabled people, as well as public buildings with various functional purpose (educational, recreational, sports), regulatory parameters of all premises groups and functional zones of the main building have been proposed for the first time, recommendations on arrangement, functional, artistic and compositional, as well as space-planning for hippotherapy rehabilitation centre are developed. Based on the author's typology of hippotherapy rehabilitation centres, recommendations for the functional scope of each type are given. Based on the methods of comprehensive evaluation of the territory, structural and functional and grapho-analytical modelling, the functional and planning models and variants of the three-dimensional planning solution of the hippotherapy rehabilitation centre have been developed, according to typological features. The typology of the riding hall, open arena, ring entrance, stables and main buildings arrangement in the hippotherapy rehabilitation centre structure is proposed, namely: pavilion, unit-type, centralized, combined. A method for capacity calculation of hippotherapy facilities is proposed, used to provide the institution with the required number of animals and recommendations on the possible time of using horses for training. A number of specific premises, which have not been analysed by scientists to date, are singled out and discussed in further detail. They include: premises for observation of classes by hippotherapists and a doctor, a place for mounting a patient on a horse, premises for patient riding classes, individual premises for «communication» with the horse.
