In the thesis work, the issue of the development of rhetorical skills of language students in the course of teaching Polish is considered. In the study, the content of the notions “modern rhetoric”, “competence”, “skills”, “rhetorical activities” “rhetorical skills”, “rhetorical competence”, “Polish language philologist” and “professional communication of a philologist” is established and specified; and the substantive content of the notion “rhetorical skills of prospective philologists” is defined, which is construed as a combination of elements of cognitive-and-speech, communicative and rhetorical activities, which a philologist applies in the course of studying in the Polish language and enables their skillful implementation in the course of professional activities. The theoretical foundations of the development of the rhetorical skills of prospective philologists in the course of teaching Polish are substantiated. Psychological foundations of the development of the rhetorical skills of future philologists are described. The content of the training resources in the Polish language in the context of the development of the rhetorical skills of future philologists is analysed. The forms, approaches, principles, methods and techniques of the development of the rhetorical skills in the course of teaching Polish are improved. The criteria (motivational, cognitive, linguistic-and-speech, communicative, reflexive-and-evaluative) and indicators are elaborated and the levels (elementary, average, sufficient and high) of the formation of the rhetorical skills of prospective Polish language philologists are defined. The content, aim and objectives of the experimental and research work are determined; the course and results of the indicative, formative and controlling stages of the pedagogical experiment are described and analyzed; the efficiency of the elaborated methodology of the development of rhetorical skills of prospective philologists in the course of teaching Polish is substantiated.
