Essay

The dissertation presents the theoretical justification and results of three-year research on determining the influence of the seeding rate and sowing method on the growth and development of plants, productivity and quality of chickpea varieties Budzhak and Odyssey in the Eastern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. We have studied the influence of technological factors on the duration of phenological phases of chickpea plants growth and development, field germination and plant survival, basic biometric indicators, formation of structure, yield and grain quality indicators. The technology of growing chickpea has been improved by selecting optimal options for combining seeding rates and sowing methods, which will increase the yield of chickpea grain to 2,5 t/ha. The highest indicators of chickpea grain yield were obtained on variants of drill sowing method with a row spacing of 15 cm and the seeding rate of 800 thousand pieces/ ha (for Budzhak variety - 2,19 t/ha and 2,50 t/ha for Odyssey variety), as well as on variants of drill sowing method with row spacing of 30 cm with the seeding rate of 700 thousand pieces/ ha (for Budzhak variety - 2,37 t/ha and 2,49 t/ha for Odyssey variety). Such options combinations ensured the formation of the highest grain yield every year. On variants of wide-row sowing method with row spacing of 45 cm, the maximum yield of chickpea grain was obtained at seeding rates of 500 and 600 thousand pieces/ha. The highest protein content of chickpea seeds was obtained on variants with a minimum seeding rate of 500 thousand pieces/ ha for Budzhak variety - 19,10 %, for Odyssey variety - 17,84 %. Further thickening of crops led to a decrease in this indicator. The maximum protein уіеИ was on variants with a seeding rate of700 thousand pieces/ha on chickpea crops of Odyssey variety, on average for three years it was 0,429 t/ha. Keywords: chickpea, sowing method, seeding rate, variety, plant survival, biometric indicators, crop structure, yield, grain quality.
