Essay

In the dissertation, for the first time, modern discourse of Mykola Yevshan’s (Fediushka’s) literary-critical and journalistic works has been given a conceptual and analytical consideration. The literary heritage of the researcher of the late XIX – early XX century has been systematized and outlined. The main aspects of modern discourse have been emphasized; the primary constants of the scholar’s ideological and aesthetic paradigm through the prism of national-philosophical character have been singled out. The significant role of M. Yevshan’s publicistic works has been comprehensively studied, its ideological phenomenon, which is a characteristic feature of Ukrainian modernism, has been conceived. The presence of tradition in Ukrainian modernism, which does not contradict his worldview and aesthetic constants, has also been presented. M. Yevshan’s theoretical, historical-literary and publicistic works have been thoroughly studied. For the first time the critic’s manuscripts, unpublished literary reviews, epistolary heritage have been used. According to the chosen theme, the development of Yevshan studies has been researched, the main points of metacritics on the scholar’s literary concept in the XX – early XXI centuries have been emphasized. Besides, theoretical and methodological basis for further consideration of the critic’s ideological and aesthetic paradigm, which consists of the works by both Ukrainian and foreign researchers, has been formulated. The term «modern» has been specified in the theoretical and methodological discourse of Ukrainian literature, the understanding of which differs somewhat from the European context, primarily in ideology and national component.
