Essay

Academic teaching employees’ professional growth is proved herein to be a continuous process of qualitative changes of their academic and pedagogical knowledge, skills, abilities in their professional activity, resulting in creative self-realization and higher efficient work, providing for the improvement of their personal practical qualities, creativity, motivational sphere and value orientations, aimed at the positive development of academic teaching employees. The system of academic teaching employees’ professional growth is determined to be based on the following special principles: 1) obligatory and continuity of professional growth during academic and pedagogical activity; 2) purposefulness, predictability and proactive nature; 3) innovation and practical orientation; 4) individualization and differentiation of approaches to professional growth; 5) openness and academic virtue; 6) guaranteed funding for professional growth. The legislative provision on the recognition procedure by a decision of the Academic Council on the results of academic teaching employees’ professional growth "in other educational institutions, individuals and legal entities" is proved to be complicated and contradictory, so the author has expressed the opinion that the results of academic teaching employees’ advanced training should be automatically recognized, i.e. by submitting an advanced training certificate (or other document) to the human resources department to be indicated in the personal record. The main requirement for professional growth should be that the academic teaching employees would improve their skills in their professional (specialty) field in order to gain (deepen) knowledge useful in teaching their disciplines.
