Essay

The dissertation reveals the peculiarities of stylistic and compositional development of Poltava architecture of the end of the 19 - beginning of the 20 centuries. The development of the city's architecture of this period, its stylistic and compositional features are thoroughly analyzed. The existing source base of the research has been improved and expanded in accordance with its subject and time constraints. External and internal factors that influenced formation of the city's architecture of this period are clarified. A typological series of buildings was identified, which includes little-known and unknown buildings, and their typological catalog was formed in accordance with the primary functions, which included 122 objects. Identified styles in the architecture of Poltava of the late 19 - early 20 century using the method of stylistic identification of objects by G. Korovkina and system-structural analysis by Yu. Ivashko. Their features are revealed: priority application of classical prototypes (in architecture of public, administrative buildings), medieval and east prototypes and all kinds of modernism (in residential buildings); the advantage of the development of brick style; formation of the Poltava Center of Ukrainian National Romanticism; restraint in the manifestations of modern; simultaneous influence of the eastern and central centers of modern (Kharkov and Kiev); the spread of hybrid styles in the architecture of the city. The role of the studied objects in the development of architecture of Poltava is clarified.
