The paper proposes the author's definition of the concept of the mechanism of state regulation of demographic development as a set of practical means, measures, tools, levers and incentives of a legislative, executive and controlling nature to ensure a targeted, well-founded influence of government bodies on demographic processes and situations (in particular, fertility, mortality, migration ) with the aim of overcoming demographic crises and negative demographic trends, the formation of positive demographic dynamics. The main tasks of state regulation of demographic development in the region are determined: normalization of population reproduction, ensuring an improvement in health status, reducing mortality, increasing average life expectancy, subject to a balanced improvement in economic and social conditions for citizens. The dissertation proposes to expand and clarify the classification of mechanisms of state regulation of demographic development. The methodological approach to the formation of mechanisms of state regulation of the demographic development of the region is substantiated, taking into account the specification of the functions of the subjects of influence, the components of the object of regulation, methods and tools of influence. A methodological approach has been developed to a comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness of state regulation of the demographic development of the region, taking into account social (increase in the birth rate, life expectancy, slowdown in the rate of natural decline in the population, decrease in the mortality rate of the working-age population, infants, increase in migration preserving the life of a person of working age, from reducing the level of industrial injuries, from migratory population growth, to the overall economic effect), which is based on the calculation of indicators such as: the growth rate of the human development index; economic efficiency from population change; the efficiency of health care spending; the degree of achievement of the set development goals of the population
