Essay

The objects – multipurpose pharmacognostic study of promising medicinal plant species with nephroprotective (hypoazotemic) activity and the herbal drugs, obtained on their basis; identification and quantification of flavonoids, catechins, hydroxycinnamic acids, trace elements, polysaccharides; determination of macro- and microscopic diagnostic characters for identification of aboveground portion of milk-vetch (Astragalus glycyphyllos L.); development of projects for quality control methods of "Herba Astragali glycyphylli" and dietary supplement Herbal collection "Nephroprotectolum"; standardization of the obtained phytopharmaceuticals and investigation of a spectrum of pharmacological activity; the purpose – the search and multipurpose pharmacognostic investigation of promising medicinal plant species of the Ukrainian flora with nephroprotective (hypoazotemic) effects; methods – morphological, organoleptic and anatomical (description, identification, standardization of plant materials), physicochemical (thin layer chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), HPLC with UV-detection, gas-liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry, atomic absorption spectrophotometry with electrothermal atomization, spectrophotometry in UV and visible regions of the spectrum), pharmacological (in vivo - nephroprotective and hypoazotemic action, in accordance with the standard methods), statistical (correlational research and processing of experimental outcomes); results – for identification of markers of hypoazotemic activity, the composition of flavonoids and hydroxycinnamic acids in the aboveground parts of Astragalus glycyphyllos, A. falcatus, A. galegiformis, and flowers of Robinia pseudoacacia have been studied by TLC and HPLC methods. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of the main groups of biologically active compounds – flavonoids (TLC, HPLC, and differential spectrometry), catechins (HPLC with UV-detection), hydroxycinnamic acids (HPLC), polysaccharides (GLC-MS) – in the substances of Astragalus glycyphyllos have been performed. Screening studies for the hypoazotemic effect of extracts from Astragalus spp have been carried out and the renal mechanisms of action of the extract from aerial parts of milk-vetch (Astragalus glycyphyllos L.) and nephroprotective (hypoazotemic) activity of the dietary supplement “Nephroprotectolum” have been investigated. The composition of herbal mixture with hypoazotemic properties has been substantiated; methods of identification and quantitative determination of the content of active substances for standardization of the plant materials have been worked out, indicators of quality have been established and drafts of methods for quality control of "Herba Astragali glycyphylli" and dietary supplement Phytotea "Nephroprotectol" have been developed. "The conceptual model for search and development of new herbal remedies with nephroprotective (hypoazotemic) activity" for the first time has been theoretically substantiated and experimentally confirmed; introduced – into the educational process and research work of higher education institutions of Ukraine, into production (development of Technical Conditions of Ukraine and the drafts of methods for quality control) and the health care system (information letter); branch – pharmacy.
