Essay

Characteristic of Corded Ware culture (CWC) on the territory of Upper Dnister region is presented at the dissertation. Sites of CWC cover the territory of Lviv and northern part of Ivano-Frankivsk region. Half of known settlements are situated on terraces (43 %). Lesser part – cape settlements (38%) located mainly on high banks of rivers. Small number of sites is located in floodplains (19 %). Funeral sites are characterized by location of barrow complexes and separate burials on high terraces of rivers (71 %). Instead, only a third of the sites were discovered on capes (16 %) and floodplains (13 %). From 24 sites known in Upper Dniester region archeological excavations have been carried out only on 4 settlements. Apart from the cultural layer, no stationary objects were found on the settlement in Bovshiv. Several hearth pits and ash spots were discovered in Kavske. At the settlement in Side, several objects, represented exclusively by hearths, were explored.
