Essay

The thesis is devoted to the research of terminology of Ukrainian library science and bibliography for the recent 25 years, which allowed to comprehend its national distinguishing features, to establish basic tendencies and regularities of its development, to use the achievements of leading specialists in this field as well as international experience, to outline methodological base for this terminology standardization, to determine the degree of its compliance with real professional needs. It was found that Ukrainian Librarian-Bibliographical Terminology of the early XXI century is an important part of the terminology stock of Ukrainian language that constitutes an extensive and clear system of names (2552 units are collected) grouped into thematic groups of vocabulary undergoing both constant and intensive replenishment by new terms and loss of old or obsolete terms. The hyper-hyponymic relations as well as strongly-marked lexical and semantic processes (synonymy, antonymy, paronymy, polysemy) have been analyzed in details. The issue of the structure of terms has been revealed; the basic ways of tern building have been analyzed. It has been substantinated that the processes of acquisition of term-neologisms have yet undergone neither a proper critical linguistic assessment, nor an objective study, nor professional recommendations on the need and expediency of their use. Therefore, the recent processes of term formation require clear spelling rules.
