Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the research of morphological variability of nominative parts of speech in I. Franko 's poetic works. It is for the first time that the analysis of word-changing features of nouns, adjectives, pronouns in the plane of variance in all lifelong poetic collections of the writer is carried out. A set of theoretical issues related to the study of the concept of variability is generalized. The criteria of morphological (word-changing) variability are developed and applied in the process of studying changes in I. Franko's poetic work. It was found that through the prism of variance it is possible to interpret the processes of formation of the Ukrainian literary language of the late XIX – early XX centuries. It is considered how I. Franko comprehended the processes of creation of literary language in theoretical and practical aspects. The main factors that led to the emergence of morphological variants in the poetry of Ivan Franko are outlined. Linguistic evolution is traced in the context of the analysis of morphological variants of nominative parts of speech, which testifies to I. Franko's attempt to create a standard system of declension of the Ukrainian literary language.
