Essay

Object - mapping of soil cover in its large-scale research. The purpose is to scientifically substantiate methodical and applied bases of development of various-scale maps of soils with use of modern technologies of digital mapping. Methods - field, comparative-geographical, laboratory, statistical, relief plastics, cartographic, geostatistical, mathematical modeling. Theoretical results - theoretical substantiation and new approaches to large-scale study of soil cover by mapping soils using modern technical means, namely the adaptation of different methods of digital mapping and storage of soil information. Methodical bases and algorithms of creation of a digital map of soil and ecological resources of the Kharkiv region on the basis of sequence of soils are developed. Practical results - used in the creation of the National Map of Organic Carbon Stocks in Soils of Ukraine (Global Map of Organic Soil Carbon Stocks) and the National Map of Soil Salinity, which is part of the Global Map of Soil Salinity. A digital map of soil and ecological resources of Kharkiv region on a scale of 1: 250,000 based on soil sequence with a set of geospatial data has been developed. Novelty - for the first time the methodology and algorithms of medium-scale digital mapping on the example of Kharkiv region were developed; methodical bases of detailed mapping of soils taking into account genetic and morphosculptural features of the earth's surface are improved; the theory of soil mapping with the use of modern methodological approaches, achievements of genetic soil science, tools and technical capabilities to increase the informativeness of soil cartographic materials has been further developed; improved methods of large-scale research of soil cover; the international method of digital mapping of organic carbon and soil salinization has been improved and adapted to the conditions of Ukraine. Degree of implementation - implemented in the State Enterprise "Kharkiv Research and Design Institute of Land Management" for research of soil cover in the field in order to determine agricultural soil groups for regulatory and monetary valuation of land; in the educational process of Kharkiv National University named after VN Karazin in teaching the disciplines "Soil Science and Biogeography". The field is soil science.
