Dissertation presents the results of social features of communities of Ukrainian labor migrants in host societies research from perspective of the social capital theory. The scientific discourse of «community» concept is considered and the concept of «social capital of the migrant community» is explained. The social capital place in causal models of migrant communities functioning is highlighted and a comparative analysis of such communities social capital empirical studies is presented. The social features of Ukrainian migrant communities formation and functioning in historical and sociological retrospective are revealed and modern capital-generating structures of social capital, in particular public and religious organizations, are analyzed. The author's vision of migrant communities social capital conceptualization in two dimensions (autonomy and efficiency) is offered. It was found that the dynamics of Ukrainian migrants in host societies community building is characterized by the transformation from low-performance highly autonomous models of voluntary ghettoization and building ethnically and culturally homogeneous circles of trust to highly effective low-autonomous models of deeper integration into the host society. It is emphasized that the communities of Ukrainian migrants abroad need social institutions that would purposefully influence social relations, structures and processes caused by the phenomenon of migration, in order to reduce its risks.
