The thesis is a comprehensive study of the process of mastering by future music and choreography teachers of national artistic traditions in the process of their professional training in pedagogical higher education institutions, namely: the essence of the phenomenon of national artistic traditions is clarified, a theoretical model of the process and result of mastering of the studied phenomenon is developed. The model is based on a psychological interpretation of the national artistic tradition, which is defined as a phenomenon of human consciousness and activity. This phenomenon is manifested in a complex of personal imagery, ethical and aesthetic values, knowledge and practical skills that reflect the thesaurus of traditional works of art and the experience of artistic practice of a particular national culture. The model includes such elements as empirical and theoretical knowledge, reproductive and creative skills, motivation and value attitude to national artistic traditions. The author’s methodology of mastering national artistic traditions is offered, in particular the optimal pedagogical approaches (multicultural, artistic-integrative, semio-hermeneutic and activity), principles (culture-centeredness of education; pedagogical dialogue; developmental, personality-centered and interactive learning; authenticity and representativeness of the learning material; cumulativeness; methodological stratagems), pedagogical conditions (providing gnostic, aesthetic and communicative stimulation) and methods (comparative, cross-cultural, structural-poetic and contextual analysis of works of national artistic traditions; genre modeling of tradition; imitation of authentic sample; restoration and stylized composition; stimulation of synesthetic perception and artistic associations, didactic games “Imitator”, “Castalia”, “Dancing burime”, etc.) of mastering the national artistic traditions are determined. The diagnostic methods to detect the investigated professional quality of the art teacher are developed. The criteria and indicators (epistemic (indicators – the amount of known elements of national artistic traditions, the degree of correctness of empirical knowledge, the ability to correlate the properties of works with the poetics of a particular national artistic tradition, the ability to systematically characterize the form and figurative meaning of the national artistic tradition works); praxeological (indicators – the amount of national artistic tradition elements, having been mastered in the performing activity, the degree of correctness of their reproduction, the ability to create an original artifact based on the national artistic tradition elements, the ability to creatively interpret the national artistic tradition elements in the hermeneutic or creative-projective activities; axiological (indicators – the degree of interest to perceiving, studying and practical mastering of national artistic traditions, the position of national artistic traditions in the hierarchical system of artistic values of the individual) as well as diagnostic means of determining the levels of mastering the national artistic traditions are established. The efficiency of the developed methodology in the process of professional training in pedagogical higher education institutions has been experimentally checked.
