Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the creative work of Oleksandr Shchetynsky (born 1960), a contemporary Ukrainian composer. The purpose of the research is to present the creative work of O. Shchetynsky as an individual stylistic system that evolves and reflects the postmodern era in contemporary Ukrainian art. The object of this study is the stylistic processes of world and Ukrainian music of the XX-XXI centuries, formed by the cultural and artistic situation; the subject is the stylistic evolution of O. Shchetynsky's work as a personification of the postmodernism era. The material of the research was symphonic, chamber-instrumental, choral, opera works of the composer. The research of Ukrainian musicologists outlines such specific features of the Ukrainian postmodernism as stabilizing involvement in traditions, lyricism, neoromanticism, and cordocentrism. Simultaneous multiplicity of semantic and constructive elements and reinterpretation of the past leads to a new type of the artistic universalism. The proposed concept of “style as a technique” explains the mechanism of stylistic synthesis in the works by O.Shchetinsky. It represents the technique of operating with various stylistic constructs in the composer’s sound universe.
