The dissertation analyzes the Soviet judicial system in the western regions of Ukraine in 1944–1953. The structure, organization of work, competence and staffing, and the place of judicial bodies in the state apparatus are considered. The interaction of judges with local party-state bodies, prosecutors and law enforcement agencies in solving important «political» tasks in the western regions of the USSR is revealed. Legislation is analyzed as the legal basis of court activity. The study of the struggle of the Soviet court with the Ukrainian national liberation movement in the Western Ukrainian region, with criminal offenses and with violations of labor law. The peculiarities of consideration of civil cases are analyzed
