In the dissertation the historical and legal analysis of the process of formation and development of the legislation on crimes against morality on the Ukrainian lands (IX century – 1917) and practices of its application is carried out. A new solution to the scientific problem is given, which was to identify the patterns and features of the development of legislation on crimes against morality in the Ukrainian lands (IX century – 1917). It is established that the concept and content of the system of crimes against morality received its understanding in a primitive form in the pre-state period. It is concluded that an important role in the life of society was played by the legal regulation of crimes against morality in the perioud of Kievan Rus. The dissertation analyzes the main criminal sanctions for crimes against morality in the Cossack-Hetman era. They were mainly regulated by customary law. They were especially used in the Zaporozhian Sich. The paper analyzes the normative regulation of the system of crimes against morality in the criminal legislation of the Austrian (Austro-Hungarian) Empire in the Ukrainian lands.
