In the dissertation, a scientific study was carried out, the purpose of which is to determine the theoretical foundations of the career growth of employees of the Security Service of Ukraine and outline ways to improve the national legislation that regulates career development in the specified law enforcement agency. It has been established that the current state of the state's vital activities puts the issue of professionalism and loyalty of the Security Service of Ukraine employees and ensuring their effective performance of their official duties on the agenda. The latter is directly affected by properly secured labor rights and organized stimulation of the quality professional activity of employees of the specified law enforcement agency, in particular, ensuring the career growth of employees who show better results of official activity, a high level of discipline, have an appropriate level of professional knowledge, skills and abilities, strive to development and self-improvement. Author's definition of the following terms: "career in the Security Service of Ukraine", "career growth of employees of the Security Service of Ukraine", "competition in the Security Service of Ukraine", "legal regulation of career growth of employees of the Security Service of Ukraine", "certification employees of the Security Service of Ukraine", "special inspection", "initial professional training of employees", "retraining of employees", "upgrading the qualifications of employees". The principles of career growth of employees of the Security Service of Ukraine are outlined. These principles are: the principle of optimality of personnel selection for the Security Service of Ukraine; the principle of fair career growth; the principle of unlimited career growth within the Security Service of Ukraine; the principle of gender parity in career growth in the Security Service of Ukraine; the principle of continuity of career growth in the Security Service of Ukraine; the principle of harmonious combination of the goals of the Security Service of Ukraine and the goals of its specific employee; the principle of taking into account the peculiarities of the career potential of a specific employee of the Security Service of Ukraine, his needs, interests and opportunities; the principle of proportionality and optimality of career growth. The expediency of supplementing the Law of Ukraine "On the Security Service of Ukraine" with a separate article entitled: "Career in the Security Service of Ukraine" is proved. The author's content of the specified article is offered.
