Amateur art as the historical and cultural phenomenon and Ukrainian culture constituent. To investigate amateur art as the complete historical and cultural phenomenon, to comprehend its essence and nature; to discover, analyze and generalize features of its development in Ukraine of second half XIX centuries. Methods of a research: comparatively historical, analytical, descriptive, system approach. The scientific essence of "amateur art" conception and the understanding of its specifically historical character are examined, its place and role in society life are determined. The state, the features and main development tendencies of amateur art in Ukraine of second half XIX centuries are investigated. The connection of amateur and professional arts and amateurishness role are discovered in the professional art making.
