Social tension as a characteristic of potential of destabilization of population protest attitudes. Elaboration of complex approach (methodology and methodics) to the study of social tension in transitional society. Functions and role of social tension in social processes has been definded. Peculiarities of its analize in transitional society has been shown. Conceptual model of social tension structure has been elaborated. Methodics of empirical study, measurement and calculation of social tension index have been elaborated and tested.
