Teaching to understand (TU) actualized predicative phraseological units (APPU) in an English nfwspaper text (ENT). The aim is to substantiate and work out the technology of TU APPU in ENT. The methods are analysis of literature, modeling, an experiment. Theoretical and practical results are - a TU APPU model, a PPU vocabulary-minimum. The novelty of innovation is that for the first time the TU APPU problem is solved. The results of the investigation are used in teaching stylistics, in specializes courses on the English language press. The sphere of usage - teaching stbdents to read newspapers, phraseology.
