The social development of the region of the medium level of the administrative territorial system. The research-economic and social principles of functioning of the region in the period of transition to market economy, to improve methods and methodology of selection and analysis of statistic information. Method of research work is selective examination, correlation analysis, and rating. Proposed the indexes system for complex rating of the social development of region. The selective examination of the well-being level of the regionўs population is given. The essential results of the work have been used in the activity of the local authorities, statistic praxis of organs of the state statistics and scientific-practical activity of the service of taxation.
