Cucumber downy mildew and optimization of cont-rol. Regularities of downy mildew development, epiphi-totical character of this disease in Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine were investigated. General scientific methods, which are used for investigation of phytopathological and microbiological objects were used. Two types of oospore germination were discovered: mycelial and by way out of protoplasmic mass. For the first time dyna-mics of oospore germination in soil was described. Short-term forecast for middle-susceptible varieties at term 2-10 days was developed. Optimal terms for fungi-cide application were recommended. Farm test was car-ried out at farm "Lenina", Ruzhin district, Zhitomir re-gion on area of 1,4 ha. Costs for cucumber growing was reduced by 305,9 grn./ha. Results may be used in le-ar-ning process at high school, at agricultural farms
