The presented thesis is dedicated to the complex reseach of the principle of separation of powers in its theoretical aspect and as applied to politics. The theoretical and methodological analysis of classical models of the separation of powers is undertaken. Their general and specific constituents (components) of that models are introduced. The process of separation of resources of political activity and the system of checks and balances in Western political system is analysed. The attempts of aplying the principle of separation of powers in the CIS are examined. The principal difficulties in forming the democratic political system in Ukraine are pointed out.
