Essay

The physical mechanisms of the interaction of cytochrome C, hemoglobin, ribonuclease and lysozyme with model lipid membranes have been investigated. Thermodynamic parameters of the protein binding to lipids have been determined. The protein-lipid complex formation has been found to be followed by the partial unfolding and increasing fluctuation mobility of the protein molecule. The protein-induced alterations in the membrane structural state have been characterized. The depth of the protein penetration in the lipid bilayer interior has been estimated.
