Essay

The object of research is a complex comprehensive technology of producing broad gauge rails. The purpose of the dissertation is substantiation, developing and realization of a complex of technological solutions, embracing all the stages of rail production: smelting, deoxidation, alloying, out-of-furnace processing and pouring steel, rolling and heat treatment of rails having in view increasing their reliability and service life, as well as the productivity of equipment and decreasing material expenditures at metallurgical plants. Approved principles of the theory of metallurgic processes, the theory of plasticity and processing metals by pressure, as well as principles of continuous medium mechanics, mathematical planning of experiment and methods of mathematical statistics have been used. The theoretical results and scientific novelty of the work are as follows: the combined influence of technological schemes of rail steel and rails production upon the building of structure and properties of metal det ermining the qualitative indexes of rails functioning have been substantiated for the first time. In accordance with the above a solid scientific foundation for developing and applying new technological schemes of rail steel and rails production has been laid. Degree of introduction: the technological schemes of smelting and pouring steel, rolling and heat treatment of rails have been inculcated at Metallurgical Works named after Dzerzhinsky, at "Azovstal", at Kuznetsk Metallurgical and Oskol Electrometallurgical Integrated Works, Byelorussian Metallurgical Works and in the main railways lines. Rails produced in accordance with the new Know-how possess high operating qualities, reliability and longevity. Sphere of utilization: a complex of technological processes in rail steel and rails production.
