Essay

Self - association of aromatic molecules - dyes, antibiotics and deoxyoligonucleotides of different nucleotide content, length and secondary structure, has been studied in aqueous solution using experimental NMR data and different models of molecular association. Complexation of typical intercalators with deoxyoligonucleotides has been investigated in aqueous solution. Distinctive features of sequence - specific bin ding of ligands with DNA and the spatial structures of different types of molecular complexes have been determined. The contributions of different types of reactions into summary enthalpy and entropy effects have been calculated. It has been shown that self - complementary deoxyhexa - and deoxyoctanucleotides are good model systems for investigation of thermodynamics of aromatic ligands binding with polymer DNA molecule. The obtained results may be used in the field of biophysics, molecular and medical physics.
