The development of the Ukrainian theme in the Russian literature of the first half of the 19 th century concerning the problems of mythologisation and intertextuality is observed in the thesis. A great many works are analysed, the role of the theme in the Russian romanticism evolution is defined. Ukrainian motives, plots, images pertaining to works by F. Glinka, O. Somow, K. Ryleev, N. Markevich, O.Shakovsky, A. Pushkin, N. Gogol, M. Pogodin, F. Bulgarin, N. Kukolnik etс. are reconsidered and highlighted. The modifications of Ukraine's national image in pre-romantisists' and romantisists' perceptions are outlined. The examples of mythologisation of Little Russia's image and the autor's myths about the Ukrainian Cossacks, Khmelnytsky and Mazepa are considered. The intertextual connections between the texts and also an influence of folk and historical sources on the development of the Ukrainian theme in the Russian literature of 1800-1840 are studied.
