Essay

Effect of helical and axial spatial periodic non-uniformity of plasma, intrinsic to stellarators and tokamaks, on eigen frequencies and eigen modes of magnetohydrodynamic waves is studied. Alfven wave heating of plasma is studied under the condition that the spatial distribution of fields is determined by a spatial periodic non-uniformity of plasma. The possibility of additional heating of plasma near to sattelite Alfven resonances is shown. The explanation to amplification of Alfven heating is given in the case of a maximum on a radial profile of density as contrasted to the case of a linear profile. The theory of azimuthal surface waves, propagating along the small azimuth in cylindrical plasma waveguides, is generalized on a case of the surface type waves with small axial wave numbers. The possibility of the surface type wave propagation across axial constant magnetic field in metal waveguides of arbitrary cross-section, completely filled by two layers of n-semiconductors, is demonstrated.
