Essay

Thesis is devoted to solution of the physical properties evolution problem of АIIВVI hexagonal semiconductors due to their size decrease to the quantum scales (~lD - the elec-tron de Broglie wavelength in a bulk crystal). By means of optical spectroscopy the evo-lution regularities of the electron energy spectrum of CdSXSe1-X quantum dots, synthesized in a borosilicate glass matrix, has been investigated being decrease their average radius from ~10.0 nm to ~1.5-2.0 nm. Comparing with the bulk crystal data the following effects were ascertained, namely: quantum confinement of electrons and holes, Coulomb interaction, polarization and polaron ones, effective mass anisotropy, dynamic and static disorders of the lattice, peculiarities of the electron-phonon coupling; nature of the acceptor states, both the reasons and mechanism of photodarkening effect, and role of the quantum dot surface hydrogenation in enhancement of the exciton photoluminescence. Then, the self-action polarization effects at absorptionsaturation in bulk crystals and quantum dots were investigated. Based on the ascertained regularities the optical methods for determination of quantum dots parameters have been developed.
